The UWCSEA Independent Curriculum, based on the Concept-based curriculum philosophy, allows students to explore new concepts and develop their basic understanding in these subject areas through interdisciplinary units of study in the following subjects: English, Math, Art, Humanities, Science, Music, English

Elementary School (Grades 2-5)
UWCSEA's independent curriculum is built around an inquiry-based, holistic approach to learning and is integrated with the Personal and Social Education program to support students in exploring topics such as friendship, family, personal identity and self-awareness: literacy, math, science and humanities, second language, physical education, music, visual arts, and personal and social education. Second languages include Chinese, French, and Spanish.
Secondary School (6th-8th grade)
This level helps students transition from elementary school to high school, developing their academic knowledge while also focusing on the development of an international perspective and making education relevant to the needs of the times.
The program is designed to provide students with a strong connection to the needs of the times.

Secondary School (G9-G10)
The school offers IGCSE exams for grades 9-10, with the option of Pre-IB in grade 10.

The school has adopted the IBDP program, a two-year preparatory education for students aged 16 to 19, which provides internationally recognized admission to higher education and is recognized by many universities around the world in the following subjects: Language A1, Second Language (A2/B), Personal and Social, Experimental Science, Mathematics and Computer Technology, Arts and Electives), and students are required to take no less than students are required to take no less than three and no more than four advanced level subjects.
IB Scores
In 2022, 573 candidates took the IB exams at UWCSEA with an average score of 38.2 and a pass rate of 98.3%. 42.9% of the candidates scored at or above 40 and 20.5% of the students received a bilingual diploma. Most of the candidates entered world-renowned universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and other Ivy League schools.
